We congratulate Keiko Fukuda, who’s the last surviving student of Kanō Jigorō (the founder of Judo), for officially getting promoted to 1oth dan. She’s the first woman to reach the rank, and only the sixteenth person to achieve it since the martial art was founded in 1882. 98 year old Fukuda continues to teach judo three times a week at a women’s dojo in Noe Valley. We hope we can be like her when we’re 98.
